Tired of hearing the same music weekend after weekend? Are you a bedroom DJ who wants to share your music with others? Would you like to mingle with people who love music as much as you do? Do you live in Taoyuan or Jhongli?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions then you’ve got a good reason to head to Rhythm of the Night, a free monthly DJ/dance music party in Jhongli.
The Vinyl Word has been frequenting this event since it was first staged last December. The party attracts people from as far away as Taipei, Hsinchu and Taichung, and there is usually free barbeque and hot pot in addition to cheap booze. The vibe is casual and relaxed, and a no-smoking policy keeps things nice and comfy indoors. The latest installment last Saturday saw familiar DJs such as FunkStar, Amber, Al and Fion as well as some new faces showcasing their skills on the decks.
“Though we have all the party essentials, such as bartenders, VJs, fire-spinners, and even professional bartender shows like Luxy’s,” said organizer Fan Wei-Xiang (范維翔), aka DJ Barfly, “I still think this is more of a social gathering rather than a party, because the main idea is to provide an open forum with turntables and a place for like-minded people to hang out and meet each other. We all know that nowadays many electronic dance music DJs have no opportunity to DJ so I just wanted to have a stage for everybody to play.”
The venue itself is a spacious studio in the middle of Jhongjheng Park (中正公園) in downtown Jhongli, so noise complaints from neighbors have never been an issue. And since the studio’s owner is a bartending teacher who’s more into public service than making money, punters out on a tight budget can still get blasted.
Barfly is known among his friends as a fiercely ambitious promoter who has been running publicity for parties in the Taoyuan/Jhongli area for the last four years and is now also a resident DJ at Trio, 70 Mingshan Rd, Taoyuan City (桃園市民生路70號). He came, he spun, he conquered — and now he’s going to do it again.
